Galvin Chapter 4 page 41-60 question 4

Gene shook the tree because he needs to be even with Finny. Throughout this reading Gene is questioning his relationship with Finny. On page 48 he says "I should have told him he was my best friend...which contains the truth" (Knowles 48). Here Gene feels as though he isn't friends with finny and this all comes from his competition with finny. Finny saved his life once when they were up their and Gene wanted to even the score "I didn't want to let him excel me in this" he says about the sssss it was all competition for Gene and Finny was better in sssss because he saved his life it was now genes turn. Gene subconcuisly shook the branch thinking he could catch finny to be even.
